General Remarks

Third edition of a work first published in 1878. The text to this edition is identical to that of the first edition. Added material include a Preface written by the author and a map of Cyprus. The EJF collection includes another copy of the third edition (see entry number 2309), as well as three copies of the first edition, published in 1878 (see entry numbers 2308, 2310 and 1028). An English translation, by Mrs. Mary Anne Joyner, was published in London, 1878 (see EJF collection entry number 2311) and also in New York, 1878 (see EJF collection entry numbers 2312 and 2313).

Η ΠΕΡΙΓΡΑΦΗ ΕΙΝΑΙ Η ΙΔΙΑ ΜΕ ΤΟΥ ΠΡΟΗΓΟΥΜΕΝΟΥ. Löher visited Cyprus in April 1875. He arrived there by way of Alexandria, Cairo, Port Said and Beirut. While in Cyprus he met the American consul Louis Palma di Cesuola, who presided over a series of excavations in the island. Löher travelled widely around the island, visiting various sites and monasteries. His work contains a wealth of information on the ancient, medieval and contemporary history of Cyprus. Other major themes covered in the book are the island's natural history, agriculture and the manners and customs of its inhabitants.
